Paleo Trail Mix
Being a mom of two, I seem always to remember to feed my kids but forget about myself.
Snacking seems to be the norm these days which can be problematic. When we snack, we tend to grab unhealthy alternatives because it is convenient. Convenience is not healthy unless you prepare in advance.
There are not many Paleo snacks you can pick up at your local supermarket, so I needed to get creative.
I have a large pantry with my Paleo staples so coming up with this was a no-brainer.
This is one of my favorite things to munch on and super easy to make, as it only requires two ingredients. (Whaaaa?!)
This trail mix is free from grains, gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, and can be enjoyed guilt free.
One thing it is not… nut-free.
I do have to sneak around with this since my oldest has a peanut/tree nut allergy and my husband will devour this in seconds. I also love to add dried cranberries and/or raisins to this!!
Tree nuts are nature’s way of providing us protein, healthy fats, minerals, and vitamins in bite-sized specimens.
Cashews, almonds, and pistachios contain fewer calories compared to their other siblings, the macadamia nut, pecan, and walnut. All nuts are great just in moderation! (That’s what she said)
Also, I’d like to point out; a peanut is NOT a nut. I get asked this a lot, and yes I was a bit disappointed learning this myself at first. A peanut is a legume (which is a bean), and if you are Paleo, you’ll want to stay clear of those.
Enough of the history lesson, grab yourself a handful or two of this healthy trail mix and enjoy!
