Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting

Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting

Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting

How to practice Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting

Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting; cycling between fasting (not eating) and non-fasting (eating) over a period of time.

The number one question I get from my Primal Health Coaching clients is; ‘How do I practice intermittent fasting?’ While this is a great question, there are some things you must know before you begin.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) isn’t a one size fits all approach. Your schedule will vary depending on your lifestyle practices, and it shouldn’t be used as a ‘diet’ plan.

I want you to ditch the notion that fasting should be strict. Anyone that follows a strict fasting schedule is either crazy or does not have kids. While it is always a good practice to stick to a schedule when it comes to certain things such as your sleep cycle – IF is not one of them.

My IF schedule changes daily and it is ultimately dependent on my activity level and my sleep-wake patterns.

How to Fast

With the growing popularity of Intermittent Fasting there are many ways you can do it. Today, I am only going to talk about one way – and it should be the way everyone should do it. It’s called Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting.

Spontaneous Intermittent Fasting is the least restrictive fasting practice you can take part in and it is great for beginners.

With Spontaneous Fasting, you simply skip meals when you are not hungry. Super easy right? You bet!

Conventional wisdom has lead you to believe we NEED to eat every few hours to recoup energy and prevent muscle loss. This notion is based on the Standard American Diet which, uses refined grains and sugar as your primary source of energy.

Believe it or not, humans are hardwired to burn fat as their primary source of fuel. Your ancestors thrived by eating foods when they were available and fasted when supply was short.

We are all capable of doing the same!

If you are dependent on the Standard American Diet, I do not suggest trying any type of fasting until you are at least twenty-one days Primal or Paleo. By ditching all those processed foods filled with refined grains and sugars you will reprogram your genes to become a fat burning beast!

If you need help becoming fat adapted I offer a 21-day reset program through Midwest Primal Health and Wellness. You can schedule your first session for free with me, here.
