Shredded Paleo BBQ Pork in the Crockpot

Hi, Mama! Nothing screams Summer like a barbecue! If your short on time and not proficient with the grill this crockpot Shredded Paleo BBQ Pork is just the recipe for you!

Homemade Shredded Paleo BBQ Pork in the crockpot is Paleo AND easy to make. Prepare the night before and enjoy a mess free dinner tonight!

Summer is finally here in Wisconsin. After a long cold Winter, I need some much-needed sun and an adult beverage to forget about the past four months of my life.

You can forget about any extra work and enjoy some much needed time in the sun with your family and friends. Prep this meal the evening before and take in the aromas of a barbecue without all the work the next day.

BBQ Sauce

To make life less hectic, I used Primal Kitchens Golden BBQ Sauce. You can also use their Classic BBQ Sauce as well for this recipe. Both sauces will provide you with a delicious BBQ pork meal.

If you are motivated or can’t find a Paleo complaint BBQ sauce (like Primal Kitchen or Tessemae’s), you can easily make one with Mom Eats Paleo homemade recipe.

Ingredients

  • One can tomato sauce (roughly 14.5 ounces)
  • 1/4 Cup apple cider vinegar (add more to taste as desired)
  • 1 Cup water
  • 1/3 Cup honey
  • One juiced lemon (about one tablespoon)
  • 1 TSP each of pepper, onion powder, paprika, and ground mustard

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients listed above into a medium-sized saucepan and bring to a boil.
  2. Cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour.
  3. Remove from heat and adjust spices to taste if needed.

Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup homemade BBQ sauce to the original recipe below. Save the rest up to 2-4 weeks in an airtight container in the fridge.

Pork is not only high in protein and fats (depending on cut), but it is relatively cheap compared to your cow and chicken meat.

You can easily find local, pastured, and/or organic pork at your local farmers market, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Co-ops, and online.

You got to love how mainstream healthy eating has come!

Try to avoid Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) when you can. Meat from CAFO animals typically contains growth hormones, ingested pesticides, and antibiotics.

If you are unable to source the preferred options mentioned above, take comfort in knowing partaking in the occasional CAFO animal meat will not kill you. Stress the word occasionally.

Time needed: 6 hours.

How to Make Shredded Paleo BBQ Pork in the Crockpot

  1. Place pork into the crockpot.

     

  2. In a small bowl combine spices. Sprinkle spices over the top of pork.

     

  3. Place diced onion in and cover over low heat for 4-6 hours.

     

  4. Carefully remove pork and shred or cut thinly with a knife.

     

  5. Carefully drain the pork grease out of the crockpot and put pork and onions back in.

     

  6. Add bbq sauce and stir.

     

Tips & Tricks

  • You may need more or less BBQ sauce. Start with 1/4 cup and gradually increase to your liking.
  • Top over lettuce, wrap into your favorite coconut shell or stuff your sweet potato with pork!
