It’s strawberry season! YES! We took our annual trip to the strawberry patch and picked ourselves red and took home 13 pounds (and some change) of freshly picked strawberries with one idea in mind; homemade Paleo Strawberry Rhubarb Jam.

While we did not use all thirteen pounds of strawberries on jam, we still made enough to keep our carvings and hearts content for some time – and you will too!

Instilling Healthy Habits

Growing up, I don’t remember much empathize on eating healthy, let alone picking produce from local farmers. (We did, however, always grow tomatoes and rhubarb – with chemicals).

Once our first son was born, we wanted to instill healthier and positive traditions since my husband, and I believe these are practices they can pass down to their children and so on.

We, as parents, can break the chain of bad lifestyle habits and practices now for a better and brighter future – not only for our children but those of others. There is never a better time than right now.

Starting these activities at a young age not only gives them something to look forward to, but it also shows them the importance of knowing where their food is coming from and the hard work it takes to cultivate produce.

Strawberry Picking

Strawberry picking is an excellent and memorable family activity. As you can see from the photos above. That was a total scarastic statement. My boys barely helped and my youngest whined the whole time about how hungry he was.

THERE ARE STRAWBERRIES EVERYWHERE! EAT ONE… EAT TWO… EAT FIFTY!

After twenty minutes of sweating and listening to my youngest complain we headed home and started the Paleo Strawberry Rhubarb Jam production.

Paleo Strawberry Rhubarb Jam

There is this local meat market that sells the most delicious strawberry and rhubarb jam – but it is full of sugar and additives that I don’t want my family eating. So, we did what we do best, make our rendition of this jam BUT Paleo style – No refined sugars, additives, chemicals, and NO BS.
